Introduction – Ordering Metal Number Plates
These instructions apply only to customers located in Great Britain and Northern Ireland who want to order metal number plates to display a registration mark on a vehicle travelling on public roads.
Customers located in all other countries can ignore these instructions and just place an order as normal.
We are a registered number plate supplier and we are required by law to see certain documents before we can produce a number plate displaying a registration mark. We cannot produce a registration mark without first seeing these.
When you order metal number plates from our number plates category you are ordering blank plates only. We will then apply the registration mark to your chosen plates, at no additional charge, once we have seen and verified the required documents.
Ordering Process
- Choose your preferred plate style and complete all relevant options.
- Checkout.
- Make sure you have sent us your documents (see below for how to send).
- We verify your documents and apply the registration mark to your plates.
- Your order is completed and sent to you.
Documents You Must Provide
You must provide one document from each list below, so two documents in total. The documents will be used to verify your name, address and entitlement to the registration mark. The address on these documents must match the delivery address entered on the order.
LIST 1 – Documents to show your entitlement to the registration number.
- Vehicle Registration Certificate (V5C)
- New keeper details section of the Vehicle Registration Certificate (V5C/2)
- Certificate of Entitlement (V750)
- Retention Document (V778)
- Reminder to get vehicle tax or make a SORN (V11 or V11NI)
- Temporary Registration Certificate (V379)
- Number Plate Authorisation Certificate (V948 or EV948)
- Letter of authorisation from a fleet operator, lease company or hire company
LIST 2 – Documents to confirm your name and address.
- Driving licence from any country
- Electricity, gas, water or landline phone bill issued within the last 6 months
- Council tax or rates bill issues within the last 6 months
- Bank or building society statement issued within the last 6 months
- National Identity Card
Sending Documents
Documents can be uploaded on the product page before adding to basket.
Documents can be emailed by replying to the order confirmation email you receive from us after you have placed an order.
If sending documents electronically:
- The document must be PDF, JPG, JPEG, BMP, GIF or PNG format only.
- The whole document must be shown in the image.
- The image must be in colour.
- The document must be clearly readable including any document reference number.
Documents can be posted to us. Just contact us after you place the order to obtain our mailing address. Please note, we are not responsible for the loss of documents sent by post.
Documents can be brought to us in person. If you are local and have made an appointment to visit us, you can bring your documents to us.
We must receive your documents within 7 working days of placing the order. If we do not receive them within this time, if electronic documents are in an incorrect format or if they are not readable, we will process the order for blank plates only.
Handling Your Documents
We will handle your documents with complete care and confidentiality. We do not keep copies of documents but we do retain certain information from them, as required by law.
If you have posted your documents, we will return them along with your metal number plates to the delivery address on the order.
Crime Prevention
We are registered with DVLA UK as a number plate supplier. We are required by law to see these documents before supplying metal number plates displaying a registration mark. For more information about why we ask for documents, please visit the UK Government website.
